What is aquamation?

Aquamation, or alkaline hydrolysis, is a gentle aftercare alternative that uses water instead of flame. It is similar to the process that occurs in nature when a body is laid to rest in the soil. It uses a combination of gentle water flow, alkalinity, and temperature to break down organic materials.

Aquamation uses significantly less energy than traditional cremation, and has much less of an environmental impact.

Can ashes be returned to the family?

Yes!

Pets can be placed separately so that families can receive ashes back for their individual pet. Aquamation yields approximately 20% more ashes back than traditional cremation.

Are the ashes safe?

Yes, the ashes are safe to handle.

Aquamation destroys pathogens, and breaks down chemicals and medications, so the resulting ashes and water are sterile and free of toxic residues.

What about the water?

The water is returned to the ecosystem after the process. During aquamation, organic materials are broken down to their most basic parts, and no genetic material (DNA and RNA) remains. The end solution contains 96% water, and 4% amino acids, sugars, salts, nutrients and soap. The alkali used in aquamation is completely consumed and neutralized by the end of the process.
